Double boost to partner team at Byrne and Partners

  18 February 2014, London; Byrne and Partners LLP, one of London’s top rated law firms specialising in complex financial fraud and commercial litigation, has boosted its partnership team this month.   The firm, which is frequently engaged on some of the biggest and most complex fraud cases involving the FCA, SFO and OFT, has recruited white collar crime and contentious regulatory specialist Sara Teasdale, a partner from Pannone LLP.

Sara’s new role commences on 1 April 2014.   At the same time senior associate Ben Davies will join the partnership. She has extensive experience of investigations and prosecutions brought by the Serious Fraud Office (SFO), H.M Revenue and Customs, the Financial Conduct Authority, Crown Prosecution Service and the Medicines Healthcare Regulatory Authority (MHRA), in which she represents both corporations and individuals. Sara also advises in relation to internal investigations.  

Sara’s notable cases include Operation Holbein (the largest SFO investigation into alleged criminal cartel activity in the pharmaceutical industry), acting for a number of individuals in the Metropolitan Police “Operation Rize” investigation (which resulted in over 6,000 safe deposit boxes being raided and ensuing criminal and civil cash forfeiture proceedings bring brought) and the FSA and AADB investigation into the collapse of Cattles PLC.   Sara joins Byrne and Partners from Pannone LLP, where she has been a partner since 2008.   Ben Davies is currently a senior associate in Byrne and Partners’ commercial litigation team.

He has extensive experience of both prosecuting and defending proceedings before the English Commercial Court, in cases which frequently involve an element of fraud and are often multi-jurisdictional. He has particular expertise in obtaining, policing and defending freezing orders.   Ben has played a key role in some of Byrne and Partners’ biggest cases to date, including prosecuting a $40 million securities miss-selling claim against JP MorganChase and Yukos Capital’s $450 million claim against Rosneft Oil Company. In 2011 he was instrumental in discharging a $75 million freezing order for Indonesia’s Humpuss Group. He is currently the lead associate in the defence of $111 million Commercial Court proceedings brought by the Republic of Djibouti against businessman Abdourahman Boreh.
